Planes

My piece for Burrinja Open Studios Group show is underway...silk planes, photographed from an obtuse angle. Well I don't want to reveal my hand just yet!

Spirals of Metal

Scrap metal yards are one of my favourite places to visit, sporadically, as is my want and I find pieces of beauty like nowhere else. This spiral of metal is a great example, I mean.....yes! I could have selected a piece of metal and twisted it into that shape...et voila! but that piece of 'found' metal had already been melded into that position for a reason and then was vanquished to the bin.
A fortuitous meeting one day and in my studio, it has played it's part in the dyeing process, making it's mark on silk and mordanting the colour to the cloth and now, it embellishes my textile work.
Plucked from imminent metal melt-down, bet that piece never thought it would have a life like this!

My little soldiers

Plodding, plodding, plodding away. The 'business' end (as they say on Masterchef) when we frame and document and moreover cull and DECIDE....or is that decode? I've just poured a wine and I'm tired!

Why....?

In a bid to 'get ahead', I prepared lots of meals on Monday night but somehow I'm still in the kitchen for too long every single night! Usually I LOVE being creative with my palette of spices and potions but at this juncture would much rather be in the studio. Judging by this vignette, I am not alone in my sentiment, although I would have a empty G&T glass in one hand.

Talking of bananas....

Davy Jones passed away last week and that made me unexpectedly pensive. My brother and I grew up with The Monkees, Robinson Crusoe (French version for TV 1964) and The Banana Splits on a Saturday morning. Happy Days! So rather than mourn and post Daydream Believer, lets celebrate with The Banana Splits....and a little bit of nostalgia from Robinson Crusoe.
RIP Davy Jones
